2009 is almost over and here's a mix to celebrate the New Year. The starter track from Daniel Paul's excellent Night Shift album (which has not gotten the attention it deserves mind you!) sets the mood for the whole mix - if you're into round basslines, lush pads and warm chords sugared with celestial tingles then this one does it for you.

So here we are, almost 8 years have passed since this site first went online. I never thought it would take this long to publish the 50th mix, but oh well, quality over quantity right? But here you go, 1 hour and 32 minutes of my current favorites. I'd also like to thank all the good people out there who've shown their support to us over and over again. Keep sharing your stories!

I think I managed to build this mix around Rezkar's 'Any Day Now' quite nicely. Starting up slowly with arppeggiated synth lines overlapping each other from one track to the other. Let's build some tension with more bass heavy tracks. And then, Rezkar heads for heights...

With "Lost city" I wanted to make a cinematic mix that would take you places. The mix has a melancholic storyline - with unpredictable twists thrown in hopefully. Put on your headphones and let the music suck you into a city of sound...

Where to begin? It's been almost 5 years since I've rolled up my sleeves and made a mix, and I wish I could tell you why. So instead, I give you this mix. From deep house to deep tech, my hope is that in some small way, it communicates to you. (Timo's note: David is back!)

A long time coming (too long in fact). Making a mix I could publish here on DR seemed like a mountain to climb. I became too conscious about the end product and didn't focus on the one thing and one thing only that matters in the end - having fun and enjoying the music. I'm glad to be back.

Slightly more laid-back offering this time, 'Brown Study' is filled with calming spacious strings and deep basslines. The mood is somewhat meditative, but pulsating basslines and percussion maintain the attention. Enjoy.

It's been over a year since the last mix and I almost gave up hope with house music. There were very few quality releases coming out and none of better ones really stood out either. But come the end of 2006 and everything moved forward again...

2006 will be a turning point for deeprhythms.com. I feel that the time might be right to pull the plug but not just yet. Static has lots of analogue and detroit techno elements on it and even a tempo change. Enjoy!

Exploring different directions with this mix. Variable flirts with dub, electro and more experimental sounds but every track can be tracked down to Detroit. There's some slight clipping going on, hope you don't mind.

Thought we had been lost in the Bermuda triangle, huh? Can't believe it either, though we have been publishing mixes every month, check here - but most of you haven't noticed. Here's a new "proper" mix - a melancholic and atmospheric journey.

New life - Samu - my son, means a new life for me as well. New responsibilities, new roles, new emotions, fear of the future, love, complexity. "You mean everything to me". It has just begun - life is not a series of random events anymore.

A laid back mix of timeless Detroit flavoured house sounds served at 121 bpm. The oomph, the shuffled hats, the basslines... that's all you need in 2004 - Happy New Year!
Mixed by David | September 25, 2003
Get ready for a shock–this isn't your normal DR fare. The steady stream of carbon copy 'deep house' releases have me bored to tears. This is a mix of techno and Detroit, served with a side of left-field. Tracks from Sami Koivikko, Kenneth Graham, Claude Young and more....
Mixed by Timo | July 1, 2003
Think of open spaces, clear blue skies, cirrus clouds, radiant sun high on the horizon, bright green fields of grass... Summery sounds - a mix of classics and more recent tracks.
Mixed by Timo | April 16, 2003
It's almost May and I haven't made a mix the whole year. Let's just say I wish this year had started off better. With this mix I'll just pour it all out of my system. If you're feeling carefree, well, some of our other mixes might just suit you better.
Mixed by David | March 3, 2003
Certainly an atypical Deeprhythms mix. A collection of evocative works that are quite varied and hard to classify. Tracks from Jark Prongo, Kaito, SCSI-9, Cobblestone Jazz and more. Enjoy!
Mixed by Timo | December 18, 2002
"The Deeprhythms sound" - this mix is just that, the deep underground vibes that make you want to get up & move your feet. Put this mix on while welcoming the new year and you'll be all set for a party. AtJazz, Spensane, Charles Webster etc. Jazzy, organic and blissful ;)

The second part of the sequence. In this state, the subconscious mind surfaces. Some scientists believe that this is a "learning state" in which the conscious and subconcious communicate freely. Do answers come in dreams?
Mixed by Timo | December 11, 2002
I *really* don't know where this one came from - I haven't done a mix this dubby and deep in ages, it just came out while I was recording. Force inc., Raummusik, Driftwood... you'll get the idea. Part one in our 'dream states' series. "To be in Theta is to be awake within the dream."

So winter arrived early this year, Helsinki is covered with snow and it's getting chilly. Picked out some records last nite and dreamt about summer, only 8 months to go... *sigh* Let the music do the talking. Laid back and dreamy, gets techier towards the end.

Inpsired by a recent thread on the messageboard - is house really dead? Well, it may be struggling but hell - there are still fresh tracks and lots of innovation going on! Here's an atmospheric and moody mix, a snapshot of my current favorites and I think it represents quite well what the DR sound is about. Timewriter, Rythma, Kaskade, Hanna etc.

The local cinema is in the middle of an Akira Kurosawa series, and I’ve been fortunate enough to see several of his masterpieces in the past weeks. This mix is inspired by his film entitled “Dreams”, a masterful anthology of short films that are at once beautiful, dark, crushing, and uplifting.
Mixed by Timo | August 13, 2002
This mix is inspired by my trip to Croatia last month - warm and relaxed feel with a very positive vibe throughout - hope you all enjoy it. Tracks from Brett Dancer, Russ Gabriel, Trackheadz, Needs etc.
Mixed by David | July 10, 2002
Another one from summer cabin. This is a landmark in the DR history, let's all welcome David Wolf onboard! From this day on he's a full partner and will provide mixes on a regular basis. I'm sure you'll all hear why - our musical tastes are downright identical - deep, soulful and at times experimental. Enjoy.
Mixed by Timo | June 21, 2002
A back to back mix I did with a good friend, David Wolf, who flew over from NYC with his girlfriend to enjoy the midsummer in a summer cabin - this was mixed outdoors by a lake, imagine that!

I was riding my bike last week and a car nearly ran over me - I was seconds away from turning into minced meat - had to break in panic and hurt myself. The car came behind a stop sign and just speeded away. F*cker. Have to get the shock out of my system, so this is a very dark, out-of-tune and aggressive compilation of tracks - disturbing at times even. Excuse the sloppy mixing.
Mixed by Timo | April 15, 2002
This is another 100% improvised take - very moody beginning with a couple of deep atmospheric tracks, a softer middle part and it ends with a couple of my favourite garage tracks at the moment. Tracks from DJ Pope, Charles Webster, Ananda Project, Moonchildren, Dj Pope etc.
Mixed by Timo | March 15, 2002
I know I haven't made a mix in a month, I somehow lost all my motivation for a while but it's all good now and DR is back in action. This is a deep take, mostly improvised - some down right gritty tracks there as well. Darand Land, Mood II Swing, DKMA, Jovonn etc.
Mixed by Timo | February 9, 2002
I'm taking a well deserved break tomorrow and heading for a two week holiday in Krabi, Thailand. Here's a 100% improvised mix I did while packing all my stuff - deep & dubby start, jazzy middle part and hazy ending. Tracks from Martin Landsky, Theo Parrish, Moonchildren, Darand Land etc.
Mixed by Timo | January 18, 2002
Last two weeks have been miserably wet and grey, there's hardly any snow left here in Helsinki. Got back from work this friday and tried to get rid off all the frustation that has been building up during the whole week. All this stress made my mixing rather brutal and rough - but it's deep, atmospheric and even abstract at times. Tracks from Dana Byrd, Adny, Kemeticjust, Vikter Duplaix etc.
Mixed by Timo | December 31, 2001
I'd like to wish everyone a HAPPY NEW YEAR 2002 - a big 'thank you' goes out to everyone who has supported me during 2001! This mix starts out with a soulful feel, takes a darker turn in the middle and ends with a couple of deep Pagan cuts. Tracks from Dub Taylor, Solar House, Hi-Lo etc.
Mixed by Timo | December 9, 2001
Many of you requested a mix with deeper vocal tracks - so here it is. Took me a while to get this one done, I've been too busy lately - woke up around 2am last night and did it, really can't remember much about making it. Tracks from Weekender, Playin' 4 the city, Wamdue, Kim English etc.
Mixed by Timo | November 12, 2001
Approaching the darkest time of the year here up north, we even had some snow already. A bit more techy tracks this time - this one starts out minimal and evolves into a more ethereal & driving mix towards the end. Tracks from Sutekh, Lowtec, Chris Gray, Soul Designer etc.
Mixed by Timo | October 23, 2001
We're swimming in dark waters this time with occasional sparkles of daylight lighting our way. Deep, ethereal and dubby, this mix changed a lot from what I had planned so it's mostly improvised. - tracks from Moon Man, Darand Land, Damaged Sole, Ben Nevile etc.
Mixed by Timo | October 7, 2001
I've been burning the candle from the both ends for the past 3 weeks, but it's time to put a stop to that niw. This mix is drifting between dubby deep house and techier tracks with some Dub on top + it's also the first DR mix to feature outboard effetcs. Soothing deep and atmospheric sounds by Kemeticjust, Wamdue project, Charles Webster etc.
Mixed by Timo | September 16, 2001
I'm still confused about this week's events and find it hard to digest what has happened. I hope no-one loses their faith in the goodness of the mankind. All we can do is to hope that the world leaders will listen to the words of Martin Luther King - "An eye for an eye leaves everybody blind".
Mixed by Timo | September 10, 2001
A miserable grey and rainy monday here in Helsinki. Today was also a stressful day at work so I needed to hear some relaxing sounds by the time I got back home. I had a mix planned out but I ditched it in favour of this improvised take. A bit off from the normal DR path - hope you enjoy it, though some transitions are really rough :) Tracks by Anthony Nicholson, Tripmeisters, The Rurals, Ambrosia etc.
Mixed by Timo | August 26, 2001
A 100% improvised mix this time - the mood is deep and jazzy - kind of like the sunny sunday afternoon it was recorded on. You know that slightly blue feeling you get when you realise that today must be one of the last hot days of the summer? Tracks from Kemeticjust, Hi-Lo, Azymuth, DKMA etc.
Mixed by Timo | August 11, 2001
Thick as tar from a corn pipe. From Hi-lo's lo-fi funk "Pieces" to the lush reverbated chords of KemeticJust's "Deep Inside" - deep and dubby from the beginning to the end. And Hesohi's "Get This" - damn - how can you get any funkier than that?
Mixed by Timo | August 9, 2001
A sweet soundtrack for sunday mornings... jazzy, mellow and sunny. Fini Dolo, Miguel Migs, Forme, Next Evidence, Spånka etc.
Mixed by Timo | July 25, 2001
I just came back from a 10 day trip to Barcelona - my third visit and the place still blew me away. The clubs, the people, the vibe... This mix is inspired by the events that took place during my stay :) Paulo Rocha, Dub Taylor, Aphria, John Cutler feat. E-Man, Groove Assassins feat. Dj Raw etc.
Mixed by Timo | July 10, 2001
After a nice break from work and all the city fuzz I decided to do a more laid back mix.... Luomo, Frank Åhdahl, Playin' 4 the City Meets the Deep, Pound Boys, Alan Russel etc.
Mixed by Timo | July 2, 2001
Oh yes - my summer vacation just started! 5 weeks of sunbathing or total relaxation, I hope. Let's try get into that mood shall we? Jon Cutler, Rhythmscentric, Soul Providers, Street Corner Symphony etc.
Mixed by Timo | June 28, 2001
Kicking off with scandinavian sounds from Royal Family, Persuader and Freestyleman. Moving to deeper and dubbier tracks towards the end - check out especially Playin'4 the City's Deep Inside...
Mixed by Timo | June 10, 2001
More experimental vibes in this mix. Getting downright deep with tracks from John Tejada, Morgan Geist, Metro Area etc.
Mixed by Timo | June 3, 2001
Moody and deep as we all like it, from the ethereal deepness of Chris Gray and H&H to the US garage sound of Pound Boys and Sevynn, it's all there.
