RSS feed / podcast

Hi. I'm a longtime listener but sadly, have not posted here in years.

Question. I notice there's an RSS feed for site news including new mix announcements, but why not a feed for a podcast? Would you rather we manually download and drag to our MP3 players? Just curious. I'd like to request a specific podcast feed. That'd be great. Thank you.

Joshua,

we've been thinking about doing it, it's been put to the background because of lack of time. It's basically another template to code, so not a big task. But I've been thinking about the whole purpose of DR a lot lately, once I get my thoughts sorted out I will reconsider a podcast feed.

Well, we do this because we love the music, not because we have to winking smiley So, I don't think that it's such a chore in return for what you get?

I'll get back to this soon.

Just wondering if there was a philosophical reason behind it or just an oversight. I didn't mean to call you out or anything.

Hehe, no offense taken. It's a good question. At some point I thought it's best to get the traffic to the site so people wouldn't ignore the playlists. But, that's not a very solid argument. If people like what they hear, I'm pretty confident they will check out the playlist (wether on the site or on the id3 tags of the mp3) and buy music.

I'm adding a "listen now" functionality to the site as soon as I find the time, so that the mixes can be listened/streamed in high quality straight away w/o downloading.

... well, also, I should get the podcast thing sorted. Hmm, iTunes would support enhanced podcasts with chapters. I could use the chapter thing to display "now playing" track info and sleeves + links to records stores. Too bad the file needs to be .m4a and it'd work iTunes only. But I dunno, might be a good idea if I can figure out a way to automate some parts of the process ie. I don't want to type the time stamps more than once.

Boom:
[feeds.feedburner.com]

I will tweak it a little during the next few days, but it should be good for testing now.

Works perfectly. Thank you so much! I'm going to keep 10 episodes on my Zune at all times. :-)

Question: would you rather see all the mixes from all the time in the podcast feed or just 20 most recent like now?

For me, the most recent 20 are fine. I think anyone who wants to go back further can come to the site and find what they need.

Great idea!
Just one thing - the feedburner url isn't workning properly in my Nokia E71. As many other Nokia phones, it's got a native podcast client. Is there a non-feedburner url I could try with?

Robbra, can you tell me what kind of problems you are facing? The feed works fine on my E51 with this client [europe.nokia.com]. The data that's missing from the feed might be causing problems ie. file size and audio lenght.

After I add the url, I hit update.
Then I immediately get the error "Needs to update".
I've checked the connecions, updating works on my four other podcasts in the phone, there is space avaliable.
I'm clueless.

That is odd. Can you tell me the exact error message?

What version of the podcast app do you have? I run 1.0.3 with no problems. I sent you a private message with a different url btw. You can check those on the upper part of the forum page.
