Thelonious Funk Sessions #134 (Guest Mix By Kiyo To)

Greetings,

Hope your New Year was pleasant. I have new tracks from Gerry Read, Morphosis & Aril Brikha. Joakim & Bambounou teams up for one of the most interesting tracks I've heard in a while. Kenny Larkin remixes Kevin Saunderson on Defected.

The first triple play of year goes to Stephan Laubner that also shows his productions under his STL guise. Be sure to check out his 2nd "Unreleased Instrumentals" album on Something Records. Chicago legend Bernard Badie rerubs BeeKay Deep & Midnight Pulse on Smooth Agent.

Najem Sworb continues to impress me with his "Occupy WS" EP on Metis Recordings. More tunes will be played on the EP on a future show. Our first Guest DJ mix is from Pretoria native Kiyo To. Here's the bio about Kiyo in his own words:

"I'm a producer, vocalist, record label founder and radio Dj (I think music lover sounds better on this one). I started learning the art of mixing and eventually got to production stages with some vocal inserts in all this.

I then decided to venture out with my new found attributes to spread the word about this great thing called deep house. I then started a website where we would host sessions and other relevant links, in time I was invited to feature on several local radio stations either as a guest dj or a featured artist.

I took it further by featuring on international radio stations as a guest Dj and getting several invites to gigs, Kanzen Records is the name
of our record label have a few EP's lined up already. With that exposure came the opportunity to host weekly radio shows, the one is on SSRadiouk and is called Kanzen Times, the second one is on Chill Out Radio and is called Switakuvavisa.

I feature from time local and international guest Dj's to post their mixes either on
my website or on my radio shows and that has made our website a huge portal for deep house mixes."

So there you have it. A very nice mix with a few favorites from George Fitzgerald, Catz N Dogz & Atjazz. Definitely worth checking out...

Enjoy The Music,

Henderick AKA Thelonious Funk

Thelonious Funk Sessions #133 Year End Review Vol. 5 of 5

Greetings,

For our final installment we have Caribou's stunning remixes of Radiohead & Virgo Four. Actress certainly kills it with a massive remix of Dave.I.D. One of BNJMN's major highlights on his 2 brilliant albums makes the cut. More brilliant tunes from the superb EPs of Radio Active Orchestra & Najem Sworb makes their mark in the top 20.

2011 has been a slow year for Stefan Goldmann but he certianly had a track that made a lot of noise. Objekt has had an impressive releases on his own label & his CLK Recovery tune is absolutely massive! Marcel Dettmann & Kadebostan also makes the top 15 along with Robag's beautiful rerub of Kollektiv Turmstrasse.

In the Top 10, we have Motor City Drum Ensemble's edit of Phillipe Sarde. Maurice Fulton makes it as well under his Boof guise. I:Cube is another producer (like Stefan Goldmann) that has had a slow year but when he does a track like Transpiration, he can easily be forgiven for having quality instead of quantity...

In the top 5 we have Marcellus Pittman, Deetron, Conforce & Efdemin. Steve Rachmad's stunning remix of Klartraum's "Unique Shadow" has everything you need in a deep house track with it's snappy kick drums & breathtaking strings in the backdrop. Hence this is my tune of 2011. So enjoy the music & your New Year...

A Sagittariun gets a nice rerub from Mike Denhert under his MD2 guise... DJ Qu appears again on the list along with Levon Vincent, Agoria & KiNK.

The top 30 begins & ends with Burial from his breathtaking release on Hyperdub. The top 30 also appears to have been taken over by Dutch label Rush Hour with impressive tunes from The Oliverwho Factory, Cosmin TRG & Recloose...

Blawan has had quite a year in 2011 & his "Vibe Decorium" tune confirms his hot streak. Roman Flugel & Jonsson/Alter has also made the shortlist in the top 30.

Greetings,

In this 3rd installment I have the trinity of Burial, Four Tet & Thom Yorke kicking off the top 60 with their collaboration on Text recordings.

I have some tunes that are part of great albums that defined 2011. Travis Stewart's Machinedrum solo project, his collaboration with Praveen Sharma (as Sepalcure), Robag Wruhme, Africa Hitech, Roman Flugel & Omar-S are prime examples.

Stephan Laubner aka STL cracks the top 60 with one of his many brilliant vinyl only releases in 2011. Arttu, Daphni, Larry Heard & Oliverwho Factory are repeat offenders on the list.

Gerry Read is another producer that has had a very solid run of release this year on the 4th Wave Label. Steffi has wowed a lot of people with her debut LP on Ostgut Ton. Her tune featuring the vocals of Virginia was on of the biggest vocal house tunes of the year...

Next week is all about the top 40 tunes of the year. So please enjoy the music... And your Christmas...

Greetings,

In our Second installment we have Damon Albarn's DRC Music project in the top 80. Moon Bounce sneaks on to this list with sounds reminiscent of early Prefuse 73. Rick Wilhite's collaboration with Osunlade & Theo Parrish makes it as well.

Our last guest DJ Hakim Murpy has really created some serious buzz on the show weeks ago. His tracks track on the list confirms his level of brilliance as an artist. Rolando pays tribute to the two influential cities in the midwest.

Redshape returns on the charts with another brilliant track on Present records. In the top 70 we have the Radioactive Orchestra featuring Axel Boman.

We have two track from the impressive Royal Oak sublabel of Clone Records. One is a remix of Gerd's Palm Leaves by the legendary Larry Heard while the following track is a brilliant tune by Detroit Native Reggie Dokes. Rolando appears again with his remix of Skudge.

Ricardo Miranda pays tribute to one of the train routes here in the Chicago area on the stillove4music label.

Arno always has a habit of making massive techno on his Clima imprint. FDF (Freunde Der Familie) get gritty with som impressive techno. One of Elektro Guzzi's highlights of their critically acclaimed Parquet LP makes the list as well.

This year has also been very busy for Detroit producer Omar S. On top of completing a superb album "It Can Be Done But Only I Can Do It", he also did a massive EP for Scion for free. One of the highlights of that EP is on this list.

One of the most interesting EP was by a new artist Yø r. His "2712" tune is very reminiscent of early Moodymann productions. Quite an amazing piece of music.

Also I would like to thank Pablo Palmiero for his help in assisting me with the tracks when I needed them when mixing. Even more thanks to you & many other people that have supported the show. It's really good to see fans face to face.

Next week we go into the top 60. Until then...

Enjoy The Music,
