Thelonious Funk Sessions #144 (DEMF 2012 Special)

Greetings,

As promised here is the very first show devoted towards Detroit & the infamous Detroit Electronic Music Festival (DEMF). For the first hour I wanted to focus on the artists that are from the Detroit scene. With that being said, I kicked off this portion of the show with a old favorite of mine from Terrence Dixon.

The triple play is all about the Still Music repress of the In The Dark: The Soul Of Detroit Compilation featuring music from Mike Huckaby, a collaboration between Keith Worthy & Malik Alston & a previously unreleased tune by Rick Wilhite & KDJ (Moodymann). This came out at a time when I ran across an article a couple of weeks ago regarding the Mayor of Detroit Dave Bing deciding to save money by letting half of the lights go out in the Detroit metro area. Talk about a coincidence.

I have some older cuts from Omar-S' FXHE label with the track that started his Oasis series along with a tune from Marcellus Malik Pittman. I also have a collaboration they did with Theo Parrish as The T.O.M. Project on Sound Signature. Speaking of Theo, I decided to play a massive Carl Craig remix of his "Falling Up" tune on Third Ear. I will find any excuse to play "The Journey" by Scott Grooves on any show. Luckily this tune has been repressed for the masses to enjoy.

I have Function remixing Juan Atkins, Alton Miller remixed by Henrik Schwarz & music from Delano Smith & Patrice Scott rounding off the people from Detroit.

For the DJs that were in the lineup for the DEMF, I have music from Kompakt artists Matias Aguayo & Michael Mayer. Locodice & Filsonik are representing the NYC, while Pirhanahead, Juan Atkins & Tony Ollivierra are repping "Tha D" (no pun intended). For the UK we have Jesse Rose, Radio Slave remixed by Roman Flugel & Actress with one of his many cuts from his critically acclaimed "R.I.P." album.

So I have the people that helped made Detroit what it is today & the artists that are a part of this Movement. Volume 2 is coming up in 2013, but until then...

Enjoy The Music,

Henderick AKA Thelonious Funk
