#103 Götze & Wohlfahrt for Deeprhythms

Solid Rotation head honchos step in for guest mix #103 (yes, I know I skipped 120 but that's reserved..). A super solid 80 min set of contemporary breaks from the Leipzig/Hamburg based duo.

Hi there, how’s things? Can you introduce yourself briefly to our listeners?

Hey everyone, we are two friends from Jena, currently separated between Hamburg and Leipzig. We are happy to be here and having the possibility to share our music thru Deeprhythms <3

What’s been keeping you busy of late - you’re both a DJ and a producer?

Yes. Gabriel is tweaking the knobs for future deep cuts and Jakob is currently working more on Sound Design for game audio and movies but the interest in music production is a solid component in our free time.

We are both part of Solid Rotation, which is a small label and a Radio Show with Dj Guestmixes (Sorradio). In both, we are focusing on different styles of music and trying to connect with other people. There is always stuff to do.

Jakob is also part of Sphere Radio and Yung Born. Sphere Radio is a non-commercial, interdisciplinary, and free radio platform from Leipzig. The focus here are the organizational and editorial components. Yung Born is sharing podcasts, organizing parties and a collective of friends, which on the one hand is searching for different approaches to music but mostly keeping the shaking and grooving part to it in mind.

What’s been keeping you busy of late?

Besides that, Gabi is working as an urban planner and Jakob is studying Media Art and Design.

What drove you to electronic music in the first place?

Raves

What about DJ’ing, and how did you get started?

In the Saale City Jena, the Kassablanca is an established institution for youth culture. Here we attended the DJ-Workshop with Frank and Daniel Hauser every second Wednesday and learned how to DJ, got connected with other people and our music taste developed.

Not only was this the start playing records for us, but also we were given a stage for our first gigs. The Kassablanca offers young artists a very low-threshold entry into creative processes. This location is a dream for cultural development in Thuringia. Plus they are doing this already for 30 years. There is so much to discover so please check their homepage: https://www.kassablanca.de/startseite/ (in German)

Tell us a little about your collection and how you go about finding records to buy?

We both have the privilege to have friends and close connections to both Record stores Sleeve++ in Leipzig and Fatplastics in Jena. Therefore we are in a steady exchange about music and finding new records. On the other hand, we are clicking through Discogs and the Web. Most styles of music can be found in our record shelves but mostly dancefloor music.

How has your collection expanded over the years - is your approach systematic or organic?

Always buying what feels right at the moment. People surrounding us, feelings and social developments shape our taste.

When you select records for your sets, what’s your approach like?

Mostly when the postman arrives with new records, we get an idea for a new set while listening to these records. Sometimes we realize that we have collected enough decent and new stuff with common styles of music to put into a new set. Also, then going through our collections and to find some more old stuff that could fit too.

What have been your most memorable record finds? Any good stories?

Digging through used Records in an extremely bad sorted Second-Hand store on the Island of Rügen with Dj Maik.

Best pick: Любка Рондова* и Досю Берковски ‎– Любими гръцки песни
